Sharing my city, the game we love, and a few unforgettable surprises
Last week, I had the privilege of hosting two of my favorite people—my dad and my nephew—for an unforgettable week here in Seattle. With the Milwaukee Brewers in town to take on the Mariners, the timing couldn’t have been better. My nephew is a huge Brewers fan and had been counting down the days. What he didn’t know was that I had a few surprises planned to make the trip even more memorable.
We made it to five Mariners games throughout the week—Friday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and the Wednesday day game. The highlight came Monday night, when I surprised him with on-field batting practice passes. He got to watch his Brewers up close, meet players, get autographs, and soak in every second from just behind the cage. That night, the Brewers dominated with a 6–0 shutout win. Brandon Woodruff pitched six scoreless innings, and my nephew was in baseball heaven watching his team roll. Then on Wednesday, we took a private stadium tour before the game and got to watch the Brewers pitchers warm up. He left with a few baseballs, more photos, and a grin that didn’t fade the rest of the day.
Beyond baseball, we packed in more of the best Seattle has to offer. On Saturday, we caught a Seattle Sounders match at Lumen Field, surrounded by the roar of passionate fans and the city skyline. That same afternoon, we drove to Emerald Downs to enjoy some live horse racing, which my dad thoroughly enjoyed. Tuesday morning before the game, we went whale watching and were lucky enough to spot multiple orcas and even a humpback whale showing off with a tail slap.
My dad proudly repped his New York roots all week long, rocking his Mets and Islanders gear at every stop—whether it matched the occasion or not. What made the week so special wasn’t just the games or the outings—it was the chance to share my city with two people who mean the world to me. From T-Mobile Park to Puget Sound, every day offered a new experience, a new laugh, and another reason to be grateful. Watching my nephew live out his baseball dream and seeing my dad take it all in reminded me how powerful these moments can be. It was one of those rare weeks that leaves you wishing it didn’t have to end.
