A Baseball, Hockey, and Bay Adventure: My San Francisco Trip to Oracle Park and SAP Center

From Giants’ Home Opener at Oracle Park to Sharks Hockey at the SAP Center, plus a stunning sunset cruise along the Golden Gate Bridge.

I recently took a short trip down to San Francisco to catch the Giants and Mariners at Oracle Park, and the experience was unforgettable. Friday’s game was the Giants’ home opener, and the energy in the stadium was off the charts, complete with a pre-game fighter jet flyover. I even brought the stuffed Humpy the Salmon plush doll that was gifted to me earlier this season, but alas he did not bring the Mariners any luck. The Giants secured a dramatic 10–9 victory over the Mariners in the 11th inning, capped off by a walk-off hit from Willy Adames. On Saturday, the Giants kept the momentum going with a solid 4–1 win. The atmosphere and the view of the bay from the outfield concourse made the whole experience feel larger than life.

Before heading into the baseball action, I took the CalTrain down to San Jose on Thursday to watch the Sharks take on the Edmonton Oilers at the SAP Center. It’s so convenient that the train runs straight from San Francisco down to San Jose and drops you off right at the “Shark Tank”—such an awesome way to get to a game. Despite a strong effort, the Sharks fell 3–2 to the Oilers. Even with the loss, the game was a blast—fast-paced, physical, and full of that trademark Sharks grit. There’s something about live hockey that never gets old.

One of the most memorable parts of the trip was the sunset cruise I took on the bay. Sailing under the Golden Gate Bridge as the sun dipped below the horizon was surreal, and getting up close to Alcatraz added a bit of eerie charm to the whole experience (I may have watched “The Rock” for the umpteenth time back at my hotel later that night) . The breeze off the water, the glowing sky, and the city lights coming to life created one of those perfect travel moments that just sticks with you.

And of course, I finally tried In-N-Out for the first time. After hearing the hype for years, I figured it was time to see what the fuss was about. Honestly? It was… fine. The burger was decent, the fries were forgettable, and waiting 30 minutes made it hard to fully enjoy. I’m glad I tried it, but I probably won’t go out of my way for it again. Some things just don’t quite live up to the legend.
