A Baseball-Filled July in Southern California
I took an unforgettable trip to San Diego to meet up with my friends Dana and Allison for a weekend of baseball, sunshine, and good times. The Seattle Mariners were in town to play a two-game series against the San Diego Padres, and we couldn’t pass up the chance to watch our team in a beautiful ballpark. I stayed at a hotel conveniently located near the stadium, and one of the best features was the walkway bridge that connected directly into Petco Park. Being able to stroll straight from my hotel room to the stadium entrance made the entire experience even better.
The atmosphere inside Petco Park was electric. Mariners fans showed up in full force, and the games were a thrilling mix of great pitching, clutch hits, and intense moments. One of the highlights of being at Petco was getting up close to the historic Western Metal Supply Co. Building, which is integrated into the stadium’s architecture. I even got to touch the old brick exterior, feeling a piece of baseball history right in the heart of the ballpark. Between innings, we soaked in the views of downtown San Diego, enjoyed some delicious ballpark food, and reminisced about past games we had watched together. After two exciting games, I wrapped up my time in San Diego with some sightseeing and delicious meals before it was time for my next adventure—one that took me up the California coast.
After saying goodbye (temporarily) to Dana and Allison, I hopped on an Amtrak train from San Diego to Anaheim. This wasn’t just any train ride—it was a scenic journey along the Pacific Coast, offering breathtaking views of the ocean as I rode north. The waves crashed against the shore, the sun shimmered over the water, and I couldn’t help but feel lucky to be experiencing such a beautiful route. It was the perfect way to relax and gear up for another round of Mariners baseball, this time at Angel Stadium. When I arrived in Anaheim, I checked into my hotel and stepped out onto the balcony, where I had a perfect view of Angel Stadium. Seeing the ballpark from my room made the anticipation for the game even greater.
In Anaheim, I reunited with Dana and Allison, along with our friend Jill, for another exciting matchup featuring the Mariners—this time against the Angels. Seeing our team play in two different stadiums during the same trip was an incredible experience, and we had a blast cheering them on once again. Even better, I watched wins in three of the four games I attended—an away-game streak that matched the total number of home wins I’ve seen since moving to Seattle.
