This Highmark Stadium print is drawn from a raised corner above the end zone in late autumn light, Bills in both end zones and the crowd in winter coats all the way down the frame.
Founder’s Plaza is open to the sky and open to the weather. It sits in the lower left with the bronze of Ralph Wilson Jr., the man who founded this team, standing right where everybody comes in. Whatever happens out there before kickoff is between Bills Mafia and the folding tables. And that field is fifty feet below ground level. They dug it down in 1973 to save money on construction, and in doing it they built something nobody planned. The open end lines up with the prevailing wind, so it drops straight into the bowl and swirls. Fifty years of visiting kickers have hated this place, and Buffalo did not do it on purpose. It just never fixed it.
